From my collecting, this collection.
Beginnings
In all the things I do, from being a designer to creating my stores, I think of myself first as a collector.
I’ve always been one. I mean collecting in the best sense of gathering—looking and finding, deciding
what to bring home that can be used and at the same time, bring pleasure that helps us live well.
All my life I’ve been interested in learning about many things that intrigue me. I surround myself with
ingredients that I can put together in different and new ways. From ancient to modern, the Far East to
English Georgian to Jazz Age American, the garden outdoors to the housewares inside, beauty is in the
details, and it’s everywhere. It’s in past things worth remembering and saving. It’s in the startling simplicity
of a geometric shape. The things can be rare and fine; or they can be discovered on a walk through the
woods. The one requirement is to find them magical. Artful. Treasures.
Collecting is wonderfully personal. It has no rules. In that spirit I’m so pleased to introduce this first chapter
of a collection made from my own personal collecting, with favorite treasures from my homes, and objects
that I’ve kept over many years from my store, Aero.
I hope these pieces can become ingredients in your own story. And from one collector to another, there
will be more to come.
